Warm Up at These Hotspots in Fauquier County

The heat in your home has kicked on. You know what that means…bring out the chunky knit sweaters, fluffy slippers, and plush blankets. To venture out during snuggly season for a glass of wine, a cup of coffee, or a comforting bowl of soup, check out these top local spots to take the chill off in Fauquier County.

Wineries to Warm Up With

There are few things that will warm the body and spirit quite like enjoying a delicious glass of wine on a comfy sofa in front of a fireplace while you overlook the rolling landscapes of a vineyard. Are you daydreaming yet? Luckily, Fauquier County has plenty of places to do just that. Visit Barrel Oak Winery and Brewery, which offers an impressive selection of white, red, rosé, and dessert wine – you’re sure to find your perfect accompaniment to a cold day, no matter what your palate prefers. Try Norton, Virginia’s native premier grape that makes a wine with notes of blueberries and dark fruit. The winery has received close to 500 regional, national, and international awards since 2008, so you truly can’t make a wrong choice! For those who prefer a crisp brew, Barrel Oak Brewery serves locally made varieties, including Kolsch, IPA, and Winter Amber.

At Three Fox Vineyards and Brewery, you can “come for the view, stay for the experience.” A dual fireplace and a year-round deck offer the spot to enjoy the grounds while you indulge in fruits of the land. As a small batch winery (less than 100 cases are produced for most wines, while some wines are produced in as little as 20 cases), there’s always a new treat to try. Imbibe with the pleasant, medium-bodied Abigail 2020 Red Blend, comprised of 80% Malbec and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. For the white wine fans, the Pinot Gris Estate 2021 is a must-try – and the grapes are visible from the tasting room! Beer crafted on premises, including the Weathervane Farm Ale, is also available.

For dry, French-style wine, Slater Run Vineyards grows numerous varieties including Pinot Gris (one of their most sought after), Chardonnay, and Petit Verdot on over 12 acres of a solar-powered winery. If you are sensitive to sulfites, this winery has your back in the form of a sulfite-free Merlot!

To bask in 41 acres of the Blue Ridge Mountains while you sip, Naked Mountain Winery is your place. Try the 2019 Skinny Dipper, a Vidal Blanc suitable for a sweet tooth, or the Soar V, a non-vintage “solera” style port for a wonderful pairing to the impeccable atmosphere. An onsite kitchen also offers paninis, small plates, and cheese boards if you get snacky.

A Cozy Cup of Coffee

When you’re looking for some pep in your step rather than a “wine down,” check out Hunt Country Coffee. For a toasty pick-me-up, try an Espresso Con Panna or an indulgent Breve. For tea lovers, an Orange Sencha green tea or an African Sunset red tea will tantalize your senses while thawing you out.

Half Past Moon Coffee Buzz is the place to go for a cup of joe or a bowl of soothing soup with some West Coast flair. From classics like drip coffee and pour over to unique offerings like CBD lattes, you can either get your “usual” or discover a new favorite. Peppermint and other seasonal winter flavors are also available!

A Steamy Bowl of Soup

To hunker down for a cold afternoon to chow down in Warrenton, Deja Brew Café offers a plentiful mixture of small bites, wraps, and vegetarian dishes from breakfast to dinner and dessert. A Squad Car Scramble for breakfast, A Piano Man Grilled Cheese Sandwich for lunch, a Nutella Turnover for a treat…the question is, when will you visit and which sofa will you claim?

For a classic Irish pub experience that’s fused with the present in Warrenton, Molly’s Irish Pub offers tasty dishes in a location that is second to none. Take the shiver off with a steamy bowl of Irish Potato Leek Soup or traditional Irish Stew. Satisfy your hunger with other favorites fresh from the oven, including Loaded Potato Skins, Pretzels and Beer Cheese, and Cottage Pie. Go ahead and check out the Beer and Wine List as you pile into your booth – live music will keep the house packed and your toes tappin’.
