We know how it is—you finally have a picture of yourself that you like, so you set it as your profile pic on Facebook, Instagram, and elsewhere and then the months and years go by until one day, it hits you: I should probably change that now…
If you’ve been thinking about updating your socials or your simply in need of a gorgeous getaway, consider visiting one of these sweet selfie spots in Fauquier County, Virginia. Whether you want big mountains, quiet lakes, the happy hustle and bustle of farmer’s market activities, or an entire field of flowers there in the background, any of these picturesque places in Fauquier can help make it happen.
It’s a sign!
For a taste of the perfectly pastoral, visit The Plains and take your picture by the town’s all-directional sign. While a sign-side picture might seem like it’s been done before, this one’s got a special story behind it and lists the names and distances of some of the world’s most famous cities (Shanghai, Los Angeles, Chantilly and others). Check it out and you’ll see what we mean.
If you love “love” signs: Airlie has made one of the greenest, prettiest signs you can sit on, stand beside, or simply strike a pose by. The landmark was constructed of old recycled materials (and even features live plants!). For a more homegrown, hometown kind of love sign (and to snap a pic in the same place you can buy produce, homemade ice cream, home crafted decor, and other local goods), visit Messicks Farmer’s Market. If you still haven’t got your fill of love signs after that, check out the 4th street parking lot sign in Old Town Warrenton where we dare you to strike a pose as theatrical as the one pictured!
Trucks and Trains
If you’re artsy, you’ve found a good match, because Fauquier’s art scene is stellar! Take a scenic walk over to 2nd street and snap a shot with the Old Town Warrenton wall mural behind you. While you’re there, go inside Molly’s Pub and order the brew that sounds good to you. We’d recommend a Molly’s Irish Red with the Irish potato leek soup and mozzarella sticks (trust us, it allllllll goes together). While you’re in the area, stop by Warrenton Courthouse too for a pic classy enough to end up on your LinkedIn profile.
You should visit Red Truck Bakery for three reasons: 1. coffee and cake (try the Meyer lemon, honeysuckle sweet tea or gluten-free almond amaretto cakes), 2. their just-released cookbook, and 3. A classic picture with their famous red truck! The shop is located in Old Town Warrenton and fills the space of an old filling station from 1921.
Red trucks are cool, and so are red cabooses! You can find a restored red caboose from the 1960s on The Warrenton Greenway Trail, another lovely spot to update your top 9 with.
Poetic Pictures
For mountains and trees and rows of shades of green, visit Fox Meadow Winery for a picture and a bottle (or bottles) of wine. The winery offers flights too (seriously such a fun way to try them all!) and a picnic area, and they welcome pups on leashes.
If you’re geared up for an invigorating hike (around 6 miles) that offers a truly grand view of Paris, Virginia, put this custom Sky Meadows State Park trail on your list. There are scenic spots to stop at all along your trek (don’t forget to bring snacks and water for these rest stops!), and benches are provided at intervals so you can take a minute to soak in all the green. When you reach the overlook that’s just past “Spur to George’s Overlook,” the trees in the background there look like they’re dancing—they really do! We’d recommend striking a fun pose right along with them.
Sunset Spots
When it’s nearing sundown, wrap up your photoshoot at Crocket Park where there’s a deck that overlooks the lake. The beautiful orange-yellow-red in the sky and reflected off the water makes for a peaceful, lovely, and timeless shot. This will be one to feature online and to frame in your home.
nother good sunset spot is Molon Lave Vineyards. Go for a tasting and then stay for a truly beautiful view of their 50 acres of woodlands with ponds, growing grapes, and Mediterranean decor. Morais, yet another local winery, has been in the wine-making business for more than a century now (and their architecture is pretty and impressive), so be sure to make a stop there too while you’re close by.
Our Favorite “Pick”
We love flowers, and we love this place because you can take a picture with lavender in the background as well as right in your hand! Visit Seven Oaks Lavender Farm in early summer to handpick your own bouquet and then snap away. Remember while you’re there to breathe in deeply; there are few scents so relaxing.
